work. >> good day. i'm andrea mitchell live in washington. >> romney will come across as empathetic. but here's what mitt's been promising for the last two years. tax cuts for the wealthiest americans. how do you make that seem warm and fuzzy? well you just need to shake it up as hard as mitt did last night. so, let's give it a shot. okay. here we go. >> a little magic there. good day. i'm andrea mitchell live in washington today. the white house got some welcome news. a september jobs report with the unemployment number now down to 7.8%, the lowest rate since the president took office, first time below 8%. joining me for the daily fix, chris cizilla, msnbc contributor and managing editor of post-politics.com. the president out on the stump trying to make the best of it, these numbers can bounce around. we'll drill down on the economic facts and figures in a moment, but basically this is a good news. >> yeah. look, good news from the country in that the unemployment rate went down and i would say good news politically for president obama because now the talking point that republican
. good day, andrea mitchell live in denver at the site of tonight's presidential debate, the first time in five years that barack obama and mitt romney are going to be face-to-face in what the local newspaper is headlining as the duel in denver. joining me now for our daily fix, chris cizilla, msnbc contributor and managing editor of post politics.com. first of all, this, the big face-off, let's talk about the state of the race. we have new nbc news/"wall street journal" poll numbers showing a slight tightening in the race. fou looks as though mitt romney is in the national polls slightly narrowing the gap. other problems within those numbers, problems for romney. >> yeah. i mean first of all let me say i love duel in denver. i'm a big fan of that one. i think andrea, look, last week there was a ton of polling both in swing states and nationally that i think caught barack obama sort of at the apex of the bounce he had received post-convention and post a couple bad weeks for mitt romney and mitt romney at the nader of where he could possibly be in a race where you have the country as div

of the supporters are coaching that president obama be more aaggressive. megyn: andrea mitchell is asking axlerod if you rethought the extra egypt of not bringing up women's issues. there was a lot of this in this conference call. >> all the reportsers are so polite, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. they call him ax. they all hang out together on the georgetown cocktail circuit. but what you find out on the cocktail reporters is the reporters fashion themselves as amateur political consultants. megyn: it would be nice if we could hear more about the 47%. but that was a legitimate question. asking why didn't he bring that up? o'reilly spent almost his whole show asking that question and o'reilly doesn't have a dog in this race. >> it was a polite way to saying to david axlerod, did you not adequately prepare the president? but nobody seems to be blaming president obama. i think they would have been better served if they had come out into the spin room wednesday night and said we didn't do as well as we could have. but we have a great plan for america, then they could move on. instead t
. yesterday on nbc's andrea mitchell reports, senator john kerry praised mitt romney's debate prowess and the president's limitations going into the debate. let's take a listen to this. >> it's tough i think for a president who hasn't had primaries, hasn't been out there, hasn't been debating in four years, then he only had very few debates that weren't as consequential. is the campaign seriously concerned about the president not being prepared here, laura? are these pre-emptive excuses? >> i don't think they're concerned about his being unprepared. for starters as president he is up-to-date on every world issue, any issue out there. they have spent a lot of time preparing for understanding mitt romney's record and understanding the lines of attack that are likely to come from romney. so i don't think there's going to be any question about preparation. they are concerned about some aspects of the president's performance. he does tend to sort of be a little professor didn't like. go on in settings where there is no stop watch timing his spons. so he needs to be quicker, he needs to be
happened is henry and i contacted our dear friends andrea mitchell and alan greenspan. we did this says separately about spending the evening with them and then we all ended in a downtown washington hotel room full of hearts and flowers. henry iain dhaka also sit next to each other at the defense policy board meetings and we just spent a day and a half doing that and discussing the very complicated issue of iran. at one of those meetings, henry told me -- this is very personal -- that i was his jewish mother. my response was henry, i'm sure you had one early in your life and you certainly need one, so i accept. [laughter] not an issue comes up for me under world war ii for today and even maybe before that that henry can't put into a brilliant context will frame. for his world acclaimed book "on china," he used the wilson center project for much of his research. don't worry he gave us full credit. gas masks of "the new york times" said in reviewing that book, quote, henry kissinger was not only the first american emissary to come in as china, she persisted in his brokerage with more than
the problems of america is. >> he called the president lazy and detached. andrea mitchell tried to give him a way out. >> did you really mean to call barack obama, the president of the united states, lazy? >> yes. i think you saw him admit it the night before when he delivered the pizzas, he said they are making me do this work. he didn't want to prepare for this debate. >> john sununu would not take back calling the president of the united states lazy. this man is republican worked for george w. bush, ronald reagan was in the white house ronald reagan of take naps during the middle of the day fame, he was president of the united states while john sununu was governor and he probably never would have said of ronald reagan that he is lazy. >> that's a really really good point you make. because you could legitimately say he did not prepare for the debate. >> certainly on style points. but when you take a look at barack obama substancively, the man -- this is a part of a right-wing theme that has been going on out there, mean, i hate that word but this is part of a right-
